Sluggy Freelance
If you're new to the site, today's comic won't make any sense! Click on the link below for our New Viewer's Guide! Thanks!

And... Torg Potter is wrapped. It kinda had to end this way as a set-up for the next one WAY down the road. I gotta tell you doing jumbo-sized comics for so long, I am wiped out! I think the “From the Desk of Torg” is gonna be a little lame tomorrow.

But not as lame as the Rushe Middle School supervisor!
(Thanks to Sluggite Eugene for sending me the link! It’s Wizardry, I tell you! Wizardry!)

Pete Ubercon TENNNNN!
By Pete on March 31st, 2008

Ubercon X was a blast as usual! Special thanks to Alyssa for taking such good care of things while wearing two hats at the con. Timothy Zahn is a very pleasant guy! I’m so at home at Ubercon that I have trouble finding new things to say, but I have to admit after playing the Sluggy RPG for 9+ hours at the con I can honestly say I’m addicted to this game and may refuse to publish it unless Brent promises to let me skype in on some ongoing campaign! I can’t wait to get this thing published so I can share it with all of you, you’re all gonna love it! I even doodled my RPG character on the stalwart SBG Kristy’s belly! Wizard Weasel ROCKS!!! I’ll post that when the publishing date gets closer. I didn’t get to beat on the drums of Rockband like I wanted, but hey, it probably kept me from buying the thing on the way home from the con like I did last time with Guitar Hero III.

Pete A Titanic Find!
By Pete on March 24th, 2008
After bringing up Rifftrax (see news story below) I was inundated with mail over the weekend on some of the other and more originaler-er MST3K people, like Joel, releasing their first new DVD for what looks like a new project called Cinematic Titanic! I wish I had time to make this story prettier like the Rifftrax story but Torg Potter has me out of time and scrambling. So check out the details for yourself! Definitely hit the trailer! Feels like home!

Pete Riff Doesn’t LEAVE tracks!
By Pete on March 20th, 2008

Many of you probably remember the TV show MST3K (google it if ya don’t!). I’m not sure how many of you loyal readers remember waaaay back in the day when Sluggy threw it’s sluggite-sponsored support behind keeping that show on the air. Good times! It failed utterly, but good times. Anywho, what advertisement do I happen to stumble upon on top of my own website? Rifftrax! It’s the boys from MST3K doing their own thing but with blockbuster movies like Star Wars Episode III and Harry Potter and stuff. (They provide the commentary, you provide the DVD)

What I can’t figure out is how I missed this! You people don’t tell me nuttin’! I bought a couple of them ($4-ish each) and have thoroughly enjoyed them. It feels like old times. So I think any MST3K fan should check it out. I also think the site needs easy access to more free clips, but that’s just my advice. This testimonial is completely unsolicited, BTW, so if you check it out and like it, tell them I sent you in an email or on their forums or something. Maybe they’ll send me free stuff, like cookies!

While we’re on the subject of “unsolicited pitching of projects by people I like around the subject of providing audio commentary sans the DVD commented on….”
I forget if I mentioned this before but Big Kev had Sam Jones and Melody Anderson from the 1980 version of Flash Gordon come into the studio and do live commentary for the film, so if you’re a Flash Gordon fan, this is some fanboy audio commentary you can’t get anywhere else! So if you pick it up and enjoy it, tell Big Kev to “pay Pete a nickel OR ELSE!”

rit Advertising & Site Update, etc.
By rit on March 16th, 2008

A few quick updates from my end:

  • Site Update Time:  We're still on the "old" (pre Congress making silly laws to change the start and end time) Daylight Savings Time rules.  This is due to me being too lazy to apply the DST patch; we're about to migrate to a bigger, better server so we decided to hold off.  It gives Pete an excuse to be late too ;)  Within the next 2 weeks we should be back to normal; sometime in April we hope to get a new server in place.

  • Advertising: A few of you wrote in to complain about innapropriate images, etc in the advertising.  We want to apologize - the items in question were part of an 'auction' advertising system wherein the items were provided by eBay.  While eBay was responsible for filtering inappropriate images from auctions they didn't, which led to some of the inappropriateness.   We are moving the majority of advertising to Project Wonderful, which about 90% of the time you'll see (there will be some ads from Google Adsense still as well).  If you look at the bottom of the Project Wonderful ads, you can click to bid and put your own ads on Sluggy - the charge for advertising at Sluggy is by the day.
